Africa is the most diverse continent on Earth, and that’s a fact! But unfortunately I’m constantly reminded that “black” is the only category that existed since the beginning of time on the second largest continent in land mass and population on Earth and anyone of lighter skin colour is basically an imposter!
Egypt, approximately 1 million square kilometres is located in the northeastern corner of Africa, while the Sinai Peninsula has the land area of only about 60,000 square kilometers in west Asia. So how come some African countries don’t believe we’re as African as they are? And if we aren’t African, what are we?

Some say we’re Arab! Some say we’re Muslim! Some say we’re “whites” from Europe! Some even go so far as to claim true ancient Egyptians were of “black“ colour ONLY!
Ancient Egypt stretching from Abu Sembil, Sudan to Syria with it’s main cities Heliopolis and Memphis (still exist today in Cairo)
Guess what? “Arab” is a language, it’s not an ethnicity. Religion as an argument isn’t bulletproof either, since Islam is dominant in parts of East Africa and in large communities in Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia and Eritrea. Finally, ancient Egyptians left a wealth of artifacts, statues, antiques and even poems describing the colourful diversity, with the addition of modern genetic research showing the similarities between Modern and Ancient Egyptians. Shocker!
What is it then???
Simply put, it only adds up to colour. So, I will attempt to debunk this radical theory that has zero scientic back up to prove it’s true.
In a Genetic study, researchers found coding for both light and dark skin, go back 300,000 to 1 million years, meaning that different skin colours have been around before the Homo sapiens.
This recent irrelevant interest in Ancient Egypt obviously stems from the history of African slavery and other forms of oppression. This is definitely understandable and a Utopia of powerful ancestors will be attractive... but not to the extent of claiming other people’s historic achievements nor does it justify racism against other countries in Africa that consist of different shades of skin.

An annoyed Egyptian.
